Below gives a detailed description of each band score with the information about the level of English required for band scores 5 to 9.
Expert User : Band 9
- Has Complete command in the English Language
- Accurate, Appropriate, Highly Felixble
- Fluent with Full Understanding
Very Good User : Band 8
- Has Complete command with only rare errors in the English Language
- Deals with Complex Situations well but has errors .
- Can handle complex argumentation
Good User : Band 7
- Has Good Command of English but also has occasional inaccuracies
- Can Use Complex Language Quite Well
- Understands Detailed Argumentation Quite Well
Competent User : Band 6
- Has Effective Command of English but also has some errors
- Inappropriate Words, Misunderstanding in Some Situations
- Use some complex language which is best in familiar situation
Modest User : Band 5
- Has Partial Command of English and Can Deal with Overall Meaning
- Make Frequent Errors
- Has difficulties with complex argumentation
Listening Reading Score
Listening and Reading scores are calculated by the number of correct answers you get out of 40 questions in the test. However, there is no negative marking in the entire IELTS exam.
