IELTS Writing Test Format & Scoring Criteria
Writing section in the IELTS exam comprises of two tasks that the students have to solve 60 minutes. In Academic IELTS Writing, the first task is Report Writing and the second task is Essay Writing. In General IELTS Writing, the first task is Letter writing and the second task is Essay Writing.
The word limit for the first task is minimum 150 words, and the extension can go upto 190 words approximately and the word count for the second task which is Essay Writing for both Academic and General Writing is atleast 250 words and the extension can go upto 280 – 290 words.
Writing Task is evaluated on the basis of Scoring Parameters like Task response, Coherence and Cohesion, Grammatical Range and Lexical Range. Also, if you are giving pen and paper based IELTS Exam, then your handwriting should be neat and in case you are giving computer – delivered exam then your typing speed should be fast.
