SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT SPEND MONEY ON INTERNATIONAL AID WHEN THEY HAVE THEIR OWN DISADVANTAGED PEOPLE LIKE HOMELESS AND UNEMPLOYED. TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?

It is usually expected of richer and more resource-rich nations to help their poorer and underprivileged peers in infrastructural necessities such as food supply and education. They are expected to share these resources that they have amassed through a thought-out planning and governance over decades. In my opinion, this is not a very good approach for a holistic global development. In fact, when richer countries provide such help to poorer nations, it is usually short-lived and artificial.

In the modern world, being competitive is a skill that cannot be forgone. The spirit of healthy competition is important for societies for them to work on their development, evolution and overall growth. This can only be achieved if the productive members of a society are motivated to work for this common goal. This will help them become self-sufficient, and will enable them to manage the resources that they have to the optimal level, and at the same time, strive to develop better ways for increasing their productivity on a long-term basis. This way the citizens of the country know their strengths and weaknesses and know how to work their way out, especially their own local issues that stall such economic and social development. For instance, a foriegn country providing teachers and resources to a poorer country will have the rich countries’ attitude towards these requirements, which are usually different for different societies. This approach may lead to that investment by the richer country being redundant in the long run, as the issues that hampered these development were not addressed.

Hence, it can be concluded that the poorer and resource-starved nations must find a way to organise, manage and develop their own support system, when it comes to providing needs as food and education, for this self-initiated growth will be long-term and sustainable.
