INCREASING THE PRICE OF PETROL IS THE BEST WAY TO SOLVE GROWING TRAFFIC AND POLLUTION PROBLEMS
It is believed by certain people that hiking the price of petrol would result in resolving the high road congestion and the terrible pollution problems nowadays. I strongly disagree with this view and feel that there are various other methods that can be adopted as solutions to these problems.
Traffic is a common sight in almost every urban region which has led to high pollution levels. Raising the prices of petrol might seem like a plausible solution but it is not practical considering that it will end up increasing costs of other things like transportation. As a result, costs of goods will also increase. In an economy, such a scenario would lead to inflation giving rise to an uproar amongst the citizens. To keep this in check, a minor increase in the price might be proposed but that would be insignificant and people affording vehicles would continue to afford the minor hike in the petrol price.
Instead of this the government can start investing in the production of vehicles which are reliant on environment friendly fuels like CNG and additionally also improve the condition of roads and develop roads like high-ways. Moreover, if the government would make public transport widely accessible through frequent arrivals of buses and metro trains and also include multiple routes, then the public would switch to public transport which will help reduce vehicles on the road.
In conclusion, a petrol price rise will lead to various other issues hence instead of that the government can invest in other things and help curb traffic and eradicate pollution problems.
