Writing Task 1:

The map below shows the development of the village of Ryemouth between 1995 and present.

Recent IELTS Exam 1 April 2023 India

SAMPLE 1

The maps illustrate the remarkable changes that have taken place in the village between 1995 and the present day.

Overall, there has been a significant expansion in the number of houses and shops, as well as the conversion of farmland and woodlands into sports facilities. This has resulted in a considerable transformation to the area’s economic, social, and physical landscape.

In the northeast of the village, where there was once farmland, there is now a forest park. The north-eastern road has a concentration of homes in the northwest corner of the village, while on the east-west road, the same hotel and café that were established in 1995 are still thriving. The south side of the hamlet, however, has seen the most dramatic alterations. The fishing port has been replaced by a range of apartments and restaurants, where there used to be a fish market and a row of small shops.

In addition, there are four more houses beside the roads on the village’s north-western side and a parking lot has been created beside the hotel. Finally, the former farmland and forest park have been converted into a golf course and two tennis courts, providing locals with new recreational options.

SAMPLE 2

The illustrations demonstrate the considerable changes that have taken place in the Village of Ryemouth between 1995 and the present day.

The northeast area that was once a fertile agrarian zone has now been transformed into a sporting ground, with a golf course and two tennis courts. Several roads still cross the area, with homes on the northeastern road remaining in the northwest corner of the village. Furthermore, the east-west road is home to a hotel and café that have survived throughout the years.

The most significant changes, though, have occurred in the southern section of the village, with the fishing port being replaced by apartment buildings and eateries. The former fish market and a row of shops have been replaced by these new developments. Furthermore, four new homes have been built and a parking lot established by the hotel in the northwest of the village.

In addition, the land and forest park that used to be agrarian have been converted into a golf course and two tennis courts, providing new recreational opportunities for the locals.

Writing Task 2:

Question:

Demand for gas and oil is increasing and so finding new sources in remote and untouched areas is a necessity. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

SAMPLE 1

The demand for oil and gas is growing with the increasing global population and the demand for energy. As a result, oil and gas companies have been forced to look for new sources of oil and gas in increasingly remote and untouched areas. While this can provide some advantages, there are also some potential disadvantages to consider.

The main advantage of looking for new sources of oil and gas in remote and untouched areas is that this could provide access to new sources of energy that can be used to power the global economy. For example, oil and gas companies may be able to access new reserves of oil and gas in areas that were previously inaccessible. This could lead to a decrease in the price of oil and gas, as more supply is available.

Additionally, this could lead to a boost in the economy of regions where new oil and gas reserves are discovered, as new jobs and investment opportunities are created.

However, there are also some potential disadvantages to consider. One of the main issues is the potential environmental damage that could occur when companies explore oil and gas in remote and untouched areas. For example, there is a risk of contamination of water sources and destruction of natural habitats. Additionally, there is the potential for accidents to occur during the exploration process, which could result in long-term damage to the environment.

In conclusion, it is clear that there are both advantages and disadvantages to looking for new sources of oil and gas in remote and untouched areas. While new reserves of oil and gas could be discovered, leading to a decrease in the price of oil and gas and a boost to the economy of the region, there is also a risk of environmental damage and potential accidents.

SAMPLE 2

The demand for gas and oil is increasing due to the growing population and its associated energy needs, leading to the exploration of remote and untouched areas for new sources of energy. While this could bring about a number of advantages, there are also a few disadvantages that should be taken into consideration.

One of the potential advantages of exploring remote and untouched areas for new sources of gas and oil is that it could potentially provide an increased level of energy security. By having multiple sources of energy, countries are less dependent on a single resource and therefore more resilient to potential shortages or price fluctuations. Moreover, the exploration of new sources of energy could also generate a significant amount of revenue for countries, providing them with additional funds to invest in sustainable energy sources or other development projects.

On the other hand, exploring remote and untouched areas for new sources of oil and gas could also bring about some negative consequences. For example, drilling and other associated activities could potentially cause environmental damage, such as air and water pollution, and disturbances to local wildlife populations. Additionally, the exploration of these areas could also lead to the displacement of people living in the vicinity, as well as the destruction of their traditional way of life.

In conclusion, while the exploration of remote and untouched areas for new sources of gas and oil can bring about some advantages, such as increased energy security and the generation of revenue, the potential environmental and social costs should not be overlooked. Therefore, it is important that any exploration activities are done in a responsible manner, so as to minimize the potential negative impacts.
