Sample Answer:
Writing Task 2: Essay Writing

The development of children playing sports in their free time, or taking sports seriously, is a highly debated topic and can be seen as both a positive and a negative development.

On the one hand, taking sports seriously is an excellent way to keep children healthy and fit, as well as teaching them important life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and how to handle both failure and success. In addition, being part of a sports team can give children a sense of belonging and be a great way to make friends. It can also help children to develop their confidence, as they learn to work hard and push themselves to achieve their goals.

On the other hand, the pressure to perform well in sports can be detrimental to children’s well-being. This can lead to excessive stress, fatigue, and even burnout. It is also important to remember that not all children are naturally gifted athletes, and there is a risk that those who are not as successful at sports will suffer from low self-esteem as a result. Additionally, taking sports too seriously can lead to an unhealthy focus on winning, which can be damaging to a child’s mental health.

In conclusion, it is important to consider both the positive and negative aspects of children taking sports seriously. While there are some potential benefits, such as improved physical and mental health, it is important to consider the risks and ensure that children are not pushed too hard and that they are taking part in sports for the right reasons.
