TALK ABOUT A TRADITIONAL OBJECT OF YOUR COUNTRY THAT YOU BOUGHT
- Talk about a traditional object of your country that you bought
- You Should say:
- What is it?
- How is it made?
- When did you try it for the first time?
- Why do you like it?
My country has diversity in almost all aspects, traditional handicrafts are famous and preferred by all citizens, and one of my favorites is the traditional phulkari work. It’s a floral embroidery done on the fabric and looks very elegant. It is liked by all the fashion-minded people who love to represent culture or simply dress up traditionally.
How is it made ?
The Phulkari not only includes flowers but also consists of various motifs and geometrical designs, shapes, and patterns. The Phulkari embroidery is done with the use of a darn stitch on the wrong side of coarse cotton cloth known as ‘khaddar’ with colored silken thread. This is the main characteristic of this type of embroidery.
When did you try it for the first time ?
I tried learning this art when I was very young, just around 10-11 years old. My mother and grandmother used to make many dresses using this embroidery and everyone praised their work. The vibrant colors of this art always fascinated me and brought me in lot of joy and happiness. It just keeps your mood high in spirits.
Why do you like it?
I like this because making this art is like a hereditarian gift in my family, all the females learn this in their childhood days and show their creativity through this. This art has many forms, learning all of them is like adding a special qualification to yourself. It is also a stress reliever because of its bright shiny threads and exclusivity it comes with.
