Some people think that one of the best ways to solve environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles.

Our mother earth is crying and yet we are not wiping its tears. Increasing the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles is one of the measure that is suggested by some people but, others disagree. I partly agree to this statement. According to economics and law of demand, the price of a good and its demand are inversely related, that is, as the price of a product increases, its demand decreases.

So, a hike in the price of petrol would lead to lesser demand and leading to a cut in its usage. The people of a country are in a habit of saving the money when the price rises and look for other alternatives like public transport and car pooling which will not only control the pollution but also traffic on roads.

However, it will only affect the middle-class as the rich section of the society will pay as much as it is required for the luxuries that they would like to consume. A higher price of the fuel would not affect them much and they will continue buying it at whatever rate it is being sold. Eventually, it will be the middle class and the lower sections of the society that will have to suffer. Other than hiking the prices, people shall be made aware regarding the ill effects of pollution and also remind them about the depleting natural resources.

To recapitulate, it could an affective measure but, since the scenarios and public income are a variable, awareness amongst the growing generation is one of the prominent measures.
